Safety

Infection control

Clean technique is central to safe foot care. Here is what we do on every visit:

  • Hand hygiene before and after care, and fresh gloves for each client
  • Metal instruments cleaned, then sterilized in an autoclave between clients, and kept in sealed pouches until use
  • Single-use items (files, buffers, liners) used once and discarded
  • No shared foot soaks or basins
  • Work surfaces wiped with disinfectant and covered with a clean barrier
  • Sharps and waste handled and disposed of safely

These practices follow general nursing infection-prevention principles. They lower risk but no procedure is entirely risk-free; tell your nurse about any cuts, infections, or immune concerns.
